An Announcement from Threads

At SendGrid, our customers are at the center of all we do. We’re driven every day to create exceptional offerings that add value to your lives. We want to help you do more of what you’re passionate about by helping you meaningfully and effectively connect with your customers and grow your business.

This same drive was behind our development of Threads, which was created by SendGrid Labs to offer you a new way to communicate with your users based on events and behaviors.

In the months since Threads launched, we’ve collected additional feedback from our customers about their experiences with the product. We’ve learned that while there is strong interest in triggered/automated email functionality, customers want it to be integrated into SendGrid’s core platform. After careful consideration of this feedback and the most important problems for us to solve on your behalf, we’ve decided to sunset Threads at the end of 2016.

What’s next:

  • Threads’ current functionality will be maintained through December 31, 2016.
  • We will continue to offer 24/7 support for Threads through December 31, 2016.
  • We will evaluate options for launching similar functionality in core SendGrid products in the future, but we do not have anything specific to announce at this time.

Finally, we want to assure you that the SendGrid Labs team will continue to invest in development of innovative, valuable communication solutions for you. We hope you’ll continue to join us in this effort because innovation simply doesn’t succeed without your input.

Above all else, we value you as our customer, and we are here to assist you with any questions you might have. Please view our support page for FAQs or contact us at friends@labs.sendgrid.com.

that was a huge surprise to me. Threads seemed like a natural extension of Sendgrid. we loved it.

why did you guys decided to shut it down so quickly?

    • Our decision to sunset was driven by customer feedback and a desire to focus our efforts against functionality that is of highest value to our customers, built and delivered in ways that optimize our customer experiences.

As a company, we’re evaluating options for launching similar functionality in core SendGrid products in the future, but we do not have anything specific to announce at this time.

So people didn’t like it? Why not, it’s awesome! Would love to see Threads incorporated into SendGrid Core

        • Hi Oli-
Agreed, it is awesome! People did like it, but see more value in it being integrated into SendGrid core.

  • Jimmy Retza

I agree, this functionality is most desirable directly within the sendgrid suite rather than as yet another stand alone product to configure, connect, etc.

  • Odd Bjerga

We were about to start integrating our systems with Threads.. does ‘evaluate options for launching similar functionality’ mean that you are not sure whether to include this with sendgrid or not? Pretty ambigous statement for us to relate to.

  • Is there a suggested alternative in the meantime? This also explains why I had such a hard time finding a link to it on SendGrid . . .

  • I loved the product, wished it was not killed like this.

the date is coming and there is no news on what’s going to happen to Threads functionality. We rely on it a lot! are you going to integrate it into Sendgrid?
